Mr Hans-Joachim Schmidt's website has proved to be a valuable resource covering all aspects of the colony in Tsingtao, and the lives of the prisoners of war. In particular, in the section entitled (Auto)Biographies he has collected a number of personal accounts, some of which relate to life in Bando, while others relate to the other camps. He has kindly allowed us to translate these accounts into English, and we are in the process of doing so. It has been our intention to respect the original text including introductory material and footnotes. The few footnotes added by us only relate to problems in the detailed process of translation, such as language-based humour. As the process of translation continues, the list below is expected to grow. Each translation contains a link to the corresponding German-language article.
